Language Arts

Spelling is outstanding  and we are getting fantastic grades! We played scrabble and we had a great time. We also played another game this week where we connected the spelling words as much as we could with letters.  We got points for each letter.  We all won and got candy, Smarties or suckers.
We wrote from our Authority list and we wrote lots of sentences to make a paragraph about a subject that we got to pick.  Then we got with a partner and read our paragraphs to find mistakes.
We read a story called Officer Buckle and Gloria.  It was fantasy because Gloria, the dog, did things that a real dog could not really do.  It was a funny story that talked about safety tips.  Gloria was the funny part.
Mrs. G is reading Shiloh about a boy that found a dog that was a beagle. Shiloh loves the boy who found him.

Great Second Week!

We finally felt cooler today!!!! Yeah!  It had been pretty hot in 3G and we are glad it cooled off!
Math Facts: 3G: We have worked on rays, lines and line segments and angles.  We learned how to draw them and label them.\
3C: We are playing math games like Number Top-it and a telling time game.
3M: We played addition Top-it.
3B: We learned how to read clocks and tell time.
We are still Reading How to Be Cool in Third Grade.  We wrote what we thought we had to do to be cool in third grade at Brookdale.  Poor Edward is really having a hard life in the story Mrs. G is reading to us!   We practiced our spelling words in lots of different ways.  We played tic tac toe with them, we spelled them using sign language, we wrote them with the opposite hand that we usually write with.
In Social Studies we are talking about living in different communities.  There are three types of communities.  They are urban, suburban and rural.  We made a chart showing the differences between them on the Smartboard. Next week we are going to make our own charts.
We had our first assembly to tell us about selling wrapping paper, and cookie dough and jewelry and chocolates.  If we sell things, the orders are due back September 15th.
Pretty soon, we will be typing this blog.  Right now we tell Mrs. G. what to write.
Enjoy the long weekend!  :)
