Special Scoop

Learn Not to Burn came to see us again.  She told us all about fire hazards.  We watched a video about how to keep our houses safe!  She will be back in February.
We also had an Army veteran talk about Veteran's Day and talk about his experiences.  He talked about what it was like to be in the Army.
Mikey's mom came for Art Awareness and so did his gramma.  We got to make paper vases.

Literacy

Mrs. G. is reading a memoir to us called Small Steps.  It is really good so far.  We have been listening to lots of picture book memoirs.  We will be writing our own memoirs soon.  We are getting really good at writing wonderful paragraphs!
We are working hard at finding evidence in our reading for our reading extended response questions.  We need to find the evidence in our reading and use it when answering our questions.   We will keep practicing that.
We have all been reading lots of cool books in our guided reading groups.  Some have been fiction and some have been non-fiction.  Some of us played a reading game called Read  Between the Lines.  We all played the Authors Purpose game.
In spelling this week we had a fun fall list of words.  We drew pictures and wrote the words in sentences.  It was fun to do.
Mrs. Lambert comes in two times a week and we think for a minute and write for three minutes and then we graph how many words we write.  We try to beat our own goal each time she comes.

Math

3G- We have finished chapter 3 and now we are working with those darn difficult decimals.  We used cubes, longs and flats to help us.  We are learning about tenths, hundredths and thousandths!  This is not easy.
3C- Multiplication and division is what we are learning about.  We have been practicing the 0's, 1's and 2's.
3M- We are learning some fast ways to do multiplication and division.  It is helping us.
3B- We are practicing multiplication too and we are reviewing ballpark estimates.

Social Studies

This unit is all about maps.  We started with learning about road maps and finding things on maps.  We each got our own maps.  They were grid maps and we found things of interest in Chicago.  We also found places in Illinois.  We learned about a compass rose, cardinal directions and intermediate directions too.  We studied lots of map keys and then we got to design our own maps.  We are finishing them today!  We took a map quiz too.  Next week we are starting science again.  We will be learning about matter.
